EntrepreNewbies:
Invent, Design, Build

The only time we heard the word "economics" in school was an elective taught by the softball coach. We also recall arriving at college and realizing, “Rent, utilities, loans, budget...                    Mom, help."
This class covers the basics of applied economics. Students learn about supply and demand, debt, investing, and interacting with markets. Light board games reinforce each concept, while the RPG campaign guides students through researching, launching, and expanding their own fantasy business.

Past groups have built a spy network, franchised a chain of sports arenas, grown a radio broadcasting company, and invented a water-locating device to save a desert city.
Learning Objectives:

  • Identify factors that influence markets and predict their effects
  • Discuss the basic principles of debt, loans, interest and investing
  • Compare the pros and cons of various economic systems
  • Research, create and expand a simulated small business
